Chris Stroud isn't one of the better bunker players on the PGA Tour this season, but that stat was unrecognizable early in the third round of the PGA Championship.

Stroud, who's playing in just his ninth career major, got up-and-down from the greenside bunker at No. 2, then faced a 31-yard sand shot at the par-4 third hole at Quail Hollow.

The 35-year-old blasted his bunker attempt well past the flag, then sucked the ball back to within 4 feet of the hole and saved par on the ensuing putt.

Two holes later, Stroud would make his first birdie of the day.

He sits one back of Kevin Kisner for the lead.

Count it for Chris Stroud.

His birdie on 5 moves him within one shot of the lead. #PGAChamp pic.twitter.com/k3hObqNJaa— PGA of America (@PGA) August 12, 2017
