Yankees' Pineda to undergo Tommy John surgery Tuesday

theScore — Simon Sharkey-Gotlieb

Michael Pineda's season is officially over.

After being diagnosed with a partially torn UCL in his right elbow on Friday, the New York Yankees announced Monday that the right-hander will undergo Tommy John surgery on Tuesday in Cincinnati.

Dr. Timothy Kremchek - the medical director for the Cincinnati Reds - will perform the operation, per the Yankees' public relations department.

Pineda sought a second opinion after being diagnosed with the injury Friday, though at the time general manager Brian Cashman acknowledged that surgery remained the most likely course of treatment.

The 28-year-old Pineda ends his 2017 season with an 8-4 record, 4.39 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 92 strikeouts to 21 walks across 96 1/3 innings (18 starts) for the Yankees. He's set to become a free agent for the first time in his career this winter.
