An Ironman competitor took to Lake Tahoe's waters Sunday morning. Despite the race's cancelation, many tri-athletes took a swim in the lake Sunday morning, and many cyclists were on the road as well.

The Placer County Board of Supervisors has approved an emergency declaration because of the damage caused by the massive King Fire. The King Fire, which has burned nearly 90,000 acres in the area of Pollock Pines, is threatening critical water supplies and other infrastructure in nearby Placer County.

"There's no great use or plans at this time for the building," said Mark Rideout, deputy director of facility services of parks, museums and property management for Placer County. The 5,400-square-foot, two-floor building off Highway 28 near the "Wye" is being used for training by the Placer County Sheriff's Office and storage of snowcats for Tahoe Nordic Search Rescue and a portable generator for the old Customs House, which houses Placer County offices, Rideout said.

Crews have made "great progress" overnight battling the King Fire east of Sacramento, a Cal Fire spokesman said on Tuesday, although the wildland blaze has now crossed into another county and the Tahoe National Forest. According to the daily update, the King Fire near Pollock Pines was 35 percent contained on Tuesday, just about double what it was the day before.

The northern portion will be managed by IMT 1 and comprises Branch 10 and Branch 15. The southern portion will be managed by a CAL FIRE Team and comprises Branch 1, Branch 3 and Branch 7. The dividing line is roughly the Rubicon.
