The cluster of 16 cottages on a four-acre parcel between Auburn and Newcastle attracted widespread attention a year ago when it was identified by the California Department of Public Health as one of 17 rural communities in the state with vulnerable water systems because of the drought. Even before the state's announcement, the Placer County Environmental Health Division and Placer County Water Agency were aware of the water woes at Ophir Gardens and working to find a permanent solution.

ROCKLIN, Calif., - William Jessup University will host Placer County's Fifth Annual STEM Expo on Saturday, March 7 beginning at 9 a.m. The Expo displays local student-generated work from grades 3-12 and connects students, educators and the community in a one-day event showcasing science, technology, engineering and mathematics as educational opportunities and viable career options. The Placer County STEM Expo earned 'affiliate status' with the California State Science Fair, which is the final science fair of the academic year for students throughout the State of California in grades 6-12.

A Sacramento resident is keeping his display of swastikas on his home amid renewed calls for him to take them down. The home on Moddison Avenue in the River Park neighborhood has been attracting the attention of state legislators, who have called the display an insult to American soldiers who fought in World War II to rid Europe of Nazism, and also an anti-Semitic affront to Jews.

Placer County Transit is scheduled to take over operations of the City of Lincoln's fixed-route bus service beginning July 1. Both the Placer County Board of Supervisors and Lincoln City Council approved a transit services agreement Tuesday that provides for the change in operations. The city currently operates a system with two fixed routes Mondays through Fridays through its own agency, Lincoln Transit.
