Were there ever any charges filed regarding the KFBK sports guy who was involved in a road range incident up on Interstate 80 a few years ago? A father and son were charged with misdemeanor battery in the alleged 2010 road rage attack on KFBK sportscaster Pat Walsh on Interstate 80 north of Auburn. But a Placer County jury in 2011 found John Patrick O'Neill and his son, Cory Taylor O'Neill, not guilty.

The weather system that brought clouds, cooler temperatures, and a few raindrops to northern California on Thursday pushes into the southern portion of the state on Friday. As a result, winds will shift and blow from the north-northeast Friday through the Sierra, foothills and valley.

The King Fire burning through the Sierra Nevada has cut off electricity supplied by a number of hydroelectric reservoirs and likely also damaged a number of treasured recreation areas in the region. Officials remain in the dark about much of the damage, as the fire continues to rage and access to many areas is simply not available.

School districts are watching air quality closely to make sure it's safe for students to be outside, and some events have already been canceled. The Placer High cross country team was out and running on Wednesday, with the massive smoke cloud off in the distance.

Foresthill is not under evacuation, but the King fire is burning only 16 miles away, so many residents are prepared regardless. "It's scary when you see the flames at night and the smoke every morning," said Jarvis Valdez.

Several property owners have joined Squaw Valley ski resort, Squaw Valley Lodge and Resort at Squaw Creek in requesting exclusion from the proposed town of Olympic Valley. "PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn ... feels strongly that we have the appropriate representation from our local government, both county officials and elected official , all of whom we support," wrote Hilary Newsom, president of PlumpJack Group, in a July 29 letter to Placer County Local Agency Formation Commission.

The consent calendar, items routinely approved, typically, with little or no discussion, includes contracts between the district and a special education and rehabilitation services company and with the Placer County Office of Education.
